RELATED EXPERIENCE
Exploring the world, from camp to cross-cultural.
When I'm not teaching, I love being outside and exploring the world around me. As part of being outside, I've been a Girls on the Run coach for 3 seasons, as well as spent two summers as a camp counselor. Besides being active & outdoors, I love traveling and seeing the world. This interest led me on a cross-cultural trip with Messiah College to Italy, learning about Italian art, architecture, and religion in Venice, Florence, Rome, Pisa, Siena, San Gimignano, and Sorrento. Keep scrolling to check out more of my experiences through working outside, at summer camp, and traveling abroad, and how I believe these experiences affect my teaching.

GIRLS ON THE RUN
Volunteer Coach
Fall Season 2021, 2022, & 2023
Girls on the Run is program for girls in third through fifth grade to develop physical fitness skills alongside social-emotional skills. As a coach, I teach lessons that involve fitness games, running warm-ups, running, & social-emotional skills. The program runs for 10 weeks, ending with a 5K for the girls to celebrate accomplishing getting stronger physically, mentally, & emotionally.

Volunteering with Girls on the Run has helped me to develop a rapport with other students at Lehigh Christian Academy, outside of the first-graders I see on a daily basis. It has helped me get to know my student's siblings, friends, and even coach my students as they grow older! I have also learned how to work with different age groups and third-fifth grade students have different needs than first-grade students. NEW LIFE ISLAND
Summer Camp Counselor
Summer 2017 & 2018
A place very near to my heart, New Life Island is a sleepaway Baptist camp on the Delaware River. I grew up going to this camp, so I jumped at the opportunity to serve on the summer staff as the counselor of Sassafras cabin. Throughout the summer, I was responsible for the safety, well-being, and fun of campers, spanning the ages 8-18.

Working as a counselor at New Life Island not only allowed me to relive my childhood memories of camp, but help campers to experience the same joy and growth that I found at camp. I learned so much about how children think at different ages and stages of life and how to engage them in a variety of activities. I learned the importance of developing a rapport with children and that to effectively lead, you need their respect and trust.

ITALY CROSS-CULTURAL TRIP
May - June 2018
Through Messiah College's cross-cultural program, I had the opportunity to travel to Italy for three weeks, learning about the intersection of Italian art and architecture with the Catholic faith. This trip really opened my eyes to the arts in other cultures and how central religion is to this area. I loved watching street musicians, hearing a sung Latin mass at the Vatican, seeing, seeing artwork at the Ufizi Gallery, and so much more.

This trip has helped me to be a more culturally-responsive and informed educator. I have first-hand experience in other cultures that I can draw upon and share with students, expressing how things such as music and a simple smile transcend cultural boundaries and serves as universal languages.
